There's nothing quite like freshly baked cornbread. This simple recipe is quick to whip up and is the perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients, Sift Together First
  • 1 cup 1 flour

  • 1 cup 1 cornmeal

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 sugar

  • 1 tsp 1 baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 salt

  • Wet Ingredients, Add to Dry
  • 1/2 cup 1/2 oil

  • 1 cup 1 milk

  • 1 1 egg, lightly beaten

Directions

  • PREP: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 7×11, 8×8, 9×9, or 9″ round baking dish. You can also use muffin tins, or double the recipe for 9×13 baking dish.
  • DRY: In small mixing bowl, add all the dry ingredients and sift together with a fork.
  • WET: Add remaining ingredients to the wet ingredients. Gently combine, do not overmix.
  • BAKE: Scrape into prepared baking dish and bake in oven for about 25-30 minutes, until edges are golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes back clean.
  • SERVE: Let cool 5-10 minutes, then cut and serve with butter.
